Mentoring software
Mentoring software for organizations that run structured programs
Mentorly is mentoring software for organizations: one platform where a program team enrols mentors and mentees, matches them on the program’s own matching questions, follows their sessions and reports on results, in English and French. It is built for HR, learning and community teams whose programs are hard to match by hand, from a pilot cohort to programs across departments.
What is mentoring software?
Mentoring software is the system a program team uses to run mentorship for its own people instead of spreadsheets and email threads. It holds the people in the program and their profiles, proposes mentor and mentee pairs, gives each pair a place to meet and message, and shows the program team what is happening. A public marketplace where anyone can find a mentor is a different product: mentoring software is run by an organization, for its own members or employees, under its own rules.
What it does, from enrolment to reporting
Enrolment
People join through the program’s own portal, with white-label branding and a custom domain. The program team invites them by email, or imports people from your HRIS by CSV or XLS: the CSV template asks only for an email, a full name and whether the person is a mentor. Everyone then answers the program’s onboarding questions.
Matching
Matching is where a program succeeds or stalls. Mentorly scores every possible mentor and mentee pair on the program’s matching questions, then pairs people with stable matching that respects each mentor’s capacity. With Segments turned on, you get weighted matching questions you set: the program team marks which profile questions count for matching and how much each weighs. A question marked for matching becomes required for both mentors and mentees, so every score compares complete answers. Free-text answers are never used for matching.
How Mentorly matches mentors and menteesReview before anyone is told
Preview and approve matches before anyone is notified. A dry run shows the proposed pairs without creating any match, the proposed pairs are saved as drafts once you confirm, and a mentor who has reached their capacity receives no more drafted matches until a spot opens up. Activating a match sends both people an email that introduces them.
Sessions
Mentees book sessions in the times their mentor has opened, with Google Calendar, Outlook and iCal, and meet over Mentorly Video, Zoom, Google Meet or Microsoft Teams links. Notifications and reminders in Slack keep sessions from slipping.
Reporting
Mentorly Intelligence gives AI insights on emerging themes, skill gaps and review sentiment, and shows how many mentees have set goals and how many goals were completed. Filters by segment and date range are kept in the page link, so a filtered view can be shared with a colleague. Iris answers questions about your program in plain language.
How to choose mentoring software: the questions to ask
When the workforce is large and matching is the hard part, the demo matters less than the answers to these questions. Ask them of every vendor. Here are Mentorly’s.
How does it match people, and can you see why?
Ask whether matching is a method you can inspect or a black box. Matching is a weighted algorithm, not AI: with Segments, administrators adjust matching weights, and for each active pair the program manager can see which shared answers produced its compatibility score.
Does it respect capacity and your constraints?
Mentor and mentee capacity, per person or per program, is enforced by the matching itself. You can limit matches to people who share a tag, such as a department, and run matching again for a cohort or unmatched participants: drafting new matches never changes pairs that are already active.
How do people sign in, and where do their records come from?
SAML SSO with Okta, Microsoft Entra and Duo, set up per identity provider. People are imported from your HRIS by CSV or XLS. There is no automatic HRIS connection today, so plan an import for each new cohort.
HRIS import guides, system by systemWhere is it on security?
SOC 2 Type 2 audit in progress. Ask every vendor for its audit status in writing, and send your security questionnaire before the pilot rather than after it.
Does it work in English and French?
An interface in English and French, with program content translated by AI. For Canadian employers, and for any organization with French speaking staff, this decides whether everyone can take part.
Who runs their mentoring on Mentorly
Startup Canada, Digital Nova Scotia, Basketball Australia and Prince’s Trust Canada run mentoring programs on Mentorly. Each case study tells what the program needed and what it published about the results.
Questions about mentoring software
Is mentoring software the same as a mentoring marketplace?
No. Mentoring software is what an organization uses to run its own mentorship program, from enrolment and matching to sessions and reporting. A marketplace is a public site where anyone looks for a mentor, outside any program.
Does Mentorly use AI to match mentors and mentees?
No. Matching is a weighted algorithm, not AI. It scores the program’s matching questions, with weights the program team sets when Segments are on, and the team previews the result and approves it. AI is used elsewhere: for insights on emerging themes, skill gaps and review sentiment, and to translate program content.
Does Mentorly connect directly to Workday or another HRIS?
Not directly. People are imported from your HRIS by CSV or XLS, from an export of Workday, SAP SuccessFactors, UKG, ADP or BambooHR, and each system has its own import guide.
Can one account run programs for several departments?
Yes. Several programs and cohorts in one account, from a pilot cohort to programs across departments, each with its own portal and members.
